Conditioners for Hair -- Info & Tips

Conditioners for hair are products that are supposed to improve the texture and appearance of human hair.

Hair conditioners, unlike shampoos, bind to the hair and don't completely wash out in order to give the hair the desired appearance. Most people use this product because your hair is one thing you don't want squeaky clean. The real function of a good hair conditioner is to treat the hair after shampooing and help tame it for the next grooming process; combing, drying etc.

Conditioners for hair, similar to shampoos for hair, come in various forms. Again you can find products specific to the result you are looking for. Although the original purpose of hair conditioners was to just help detangle clean hair, you can now get one that will solve one of the many problems you may have. Do you need a moisturizer? reconstructer? detangler? glosser? thermal protector? Do you have coarse? super curly? very dry? very fine? thinning? frizzy? or colored? hair. There is a product out there for you!! Just remember whether it is a conditioner of dry hair or a conditioner or curly hair or a conditioner for oily hair it is leaving product on your hair to give it the appearance of luster and gloss.

If you have curly, coarse, dry or damaged hair, try to condition every time you shampoo or wet your hair. Obviously a moisturizing conditioner would be best for you. You may also want to consider deep conditioners and a leave-in conditioner depending on your situation. Fine or limp hair can actually do without conditioner. You may just need a detangler if that is your problem. If you do use a conditioner be sure to apply it only to the ends to mid shaft of your hair. This will prevent a greasy oily look you want to avoid.

Tips

  • For best results, apply hair conditioner to wet hair after you have squeezed out most of the water.
  • Take some conditioner in your hands and work it through your hair. For normal hair start half way up the shaft and pull through to the ends. For a dry scalp or very dry and damaged hair use it on the entire length of your hair including the scalp. Extra measure -- dry scalp conditioner should be left in for while so it can penetrate.
  • Rinse out conditioner with cool, not warm or hot, water to get a shiny mane.
  • Cover your hair with conditioner right before a swim to protect it from the harsh pool chemicals.
